Churachandpur Launches HPV Vaccination Drive

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign targeting 14-year-old girls commenced in Churachandpur district following a nationwide launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 28 in Ajmer, Rajasthan. This initiative, under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, aims to safeguard adolescent girls from cervical cancer, the second most common cancer among women in India, with 99.7% of cases attributed to HPV. The vaccine, administered safely in 155 countries for over 15 years, is being provided free of charge through a government program for three months. Vaccinations will occur every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at designated health centers including the District Immunization Centre and various PHCs. Typically costing around ₹4,000 per dose in the private sector, the HPV vaccine is anticipated to significantly reduce cervical cancer cases by improving access for adolescent girls.
