A 12-year-old boy drowned in the river while bathing in the river at his uncle’s house. According to local sources, Sohana Parveen (12), a resident of Darji Para area of Cooch Behar, came to visit her uncle’s house in the Karishal area of Cooch Behar along with her mother. After staying at her uncle’s house for a few days, before going home today, she went to take a bath in the Torsha river with her mother. Due to not knowing how to swim, Sohana Parveen drowned in the river. At that time the local residents rushed to her mother’s screams and rescued Sohana Parveen from some distance from the river. She was rushed to the Cooch Behar Medical College where the doctors on duty declared her dead.
The incident cast a shadow of mourning on the entire area. Mojibul Haque, uncle of the deceased girl, said that his sister and his niece came to their house. They are supposed to go home today. Before going home, the two went to bathe in the river. And his niece was washed away in the river. Locals rescued her and took her to the hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
