A team of East Guwahati Police District from Basistha Police Station busted a major car fraud racket with the arrest of the mastermind, Rupjyoti Das. The accused impersonated himself as a Cluster Head of HSBC Bank, took multiple vehicles on rent claiming official bank use, and later fraudulently sold them to third parties by falsely projecting the vehicles as bank-auctioned assets. Four such vehicles have been recovered from different locations in Assam and Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh. The recovered vehicles include one Grand i10 Nios, one Maruti Fronx, one Mahindra Scorpio, and a Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
