On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Manipur emphasized the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and support for persons with disabilities (PwDs), aligning with the global theme “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress.” The District Social Welfare Office, in collaboration with local organizations, hosted a district-level program featuring performances by students from special schools and a fashion show. Officials, including Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam, stressed the need for government schemes to prioritize accessibility and noted the achievements of PwDs in various fields when given proper opportunities.
In Pherzawl, Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching discussed reducing stigma related to disability and announced the inclusion of accessibility features in the upcoming Mini Secretariat. In Kangpokpi, officials highlighted existing support schemes for PwDs and the importance of recognizing their dignity and contributions. Despite receiving essential items and support from the administration, PwDs raised concerns about unprocessed assistance requests. The event underscored a commitment to continue addressing the needs and challenges faced by the disabled community.
