Bishnupur DC Flags Off IDP-Run Mobile Canteen

Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam of Bishnupur inaugurated a Mobile Canteen Initiative aimed at providing food to students through Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at New Model Public School in Kumbi. This initiative is designed to generate income for IDPs and will be extended to all schools in the district, starting with Kumbi. The mobile canteen will offer tasty and nutritious meals to students on a schedule based on demand, operating two to three times a week.

During the launch, Elangbam interacted with students, stressing the importance of their educational journey and encouraging them to focus and strive for excellence, as these formative years are unique and irreplaceable. The event also featured the attendance of social activist Rohan Philem and representatives from the Zonal Education Office (ZEO) in Bishnupur.

In addition to the canteen initiative, Elangbam attended a Community Solidarity Event later in the day, organized by Solidarity and Action Against the HIV Infection in India (SAATHI) and Empowering Trans Ability (ETA), with support from the American Jewish World Service. She praised SAATHI and ETA for their work in supporting people affected by HIV and reaffirmed the District Administration’s commitment to assist the transgender community, including providing identity cards, raising awareness of their rights, and promoting initiatives for their empowerment.
