The Hanuman Jayanti celebrations in West Bengal went ahead without a hitch, but security officials kept a close eye on the state to avoid a repetition of the violence that marked the Ram Navami festival last week.A Calcutta High Court order placed three companies of the central armed police forces in the cities of Kolkata, Hooghly, and Barrackpore to assist the state police in maintaining law and order during the day.
