Bangladesh and Malaysia Sign MoU on Migrant Worker Protection

Bangladesh and Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focusing on labor rights and safety measures for Bangladeshi migrant workers employed in Malaysia.

The agreement ensures timely payment of wages, better accommodation, and grievance redressal mechanisms. Nearly 10 lakh Bangladeshis currently work in Malaysia, primarily in construction and plantation sectors.

The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare in Dhaka said the deal would serve as a model for similar agreements with Gulf and Southeast Asian nations. Migrant rights groups in Nepal and India welcomed the move, urging their governments to pursue similar protection agreements.
