BABINA Hospital Scripts History with First ABO-Incompatible Kidney Transplant

BABINA Hospital has achieved a major milestone by performing its first ABO-incompatible kidney transplant on February 22, 2026. The procedure involved a 21-year-old patient from Kamjong district, whose mother was the donor. Unlike conventional living-donor kidney transplants, which require compatible blood groups to minimize rejection risks, ABO-incompatible transplants involve specialized medical preparations and treatment protocols to prepare the recipient’s immune system. This advancement highlights the hospital’s commitment to enhancing renal transplant services within Manipur, aided by both government and private healthcare institutions.

The hospital aims to provide kidney transplants at a more affordable cost to alleviate financial burdens for families and reduce the necessity for patients to seek treatment outside the state. Dr. Naorem Sharatkumar Singh, Senior Consultant Nephrologist at BABINA Hospital, emphasized that the successful transplant results from careful donor and recipient preparation and the collaborative efforts of a multidisciplinary transplant team. Dr. Thangjam Dhabali Singh, CMD of BABINA Group, reinforced the commitment to improving specialized healthcare services, ensuring local access to advanced treatments at reasonable costs. Overall, BABINA Hospital is enhancing its renal and transplant capabilities through modern infrastructure, experienced professionals, and a comprehensive care approach, providing patients with quality, localized medical treatment.
