Authorities Destroy Poppy Cultivation in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi

A coordinated operation involving security forces and the forest department led to the destruction of approximately 10 acres of illegal poppy cultivation in the Suangkong Hill range, located under the Behiang Police Station in Churachandpur district, as stated by the Manipur Police. On the previous day, another team eradicated about 55 acres of similar cultivation in S. Khonomphai and Denglen villages under the jurisdiction of Saikul Police Station in Kangpokpi district. The operation not only targeted the crops but also resulted in the dismantling of four temporary huts, removal of bags of fertilizer, and destruction of equipment such as spray pumps, pipes, and herbicides that were being utilized for the cultivation.

In a separate incident, Manipur Police apprehended four individuals from two unregistered Gypsy vehicles in the Pallel Maning Leikai area of Kakching district. The arrested persons, identified as Darshung (24), ST Koko (27), Kophamhring (23), and HP Mono (30), are residents of Zaphou Bazar in Chandel district. During the arrest, police seized significant quantities of alcohol, including 219 bottles of JO-Ei Soju and 685 cans of Chang beer, as well as the two vehicles themselves.

Additionally, security forces have been engaged in ongoing search operations and area domination to maintain security in fringe and vulnerable districts. They ensured the movement of 144 vehicles carrying essential goods along NH-37, implementing strict security measures at all critical locations to provide safe transit for the vehicles, particularly in sensitive stretches of the route.
