Assault on Northeast Duo Near Saket Court: Juvenile Apprehended

A juvenile has been captured, and the police have initiated ongoing operations to locate and arrest other suspects involved in the alleged assault case involving two individuals from Northeast India. This incident took place on March 8 in the Malviya Nagar area, near the Saket District Court Complex in Delhi, and has reignited concerns regarding the safety of Northeast residents in the capital.

The victims, a woman from Manipur and a transgender individual from Assam, were reportedly walking in a park when they encountered a group of men who began to direct racially charged comments toward them. The situation escalated when the woman objected to the remarks, leading to a physical confrontation. The assailants allegedly attacked them with punches and belts while using derogatory language, which included racial slurs.

In response to the attack, the Delhi Police have registered a case under relevant legal provisions. They have stated that multiple teams are actively working to identify the remaining perpetrators and providing consistent support to the victims. Following the apprehension of one juvenile involved in the incident, police reiterated their commitment to taking strict legal measures against those responsible.

This attack has prompted strong reactions from political leaders as well. Conrad K. Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, condemned the incident and highlighted a troubling pattern of violence against Northeast individuals in mainland India. He characterized the physical assault as “sickening” and asserted that racial bullying should not be normalized, calling for stringent actions to combat such behavior.
