Assam Polls Before Rongali Bihu? BJP Appeals to Election Commission

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation met with the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar, in Guwahati, advocating for the Assembly elections in Assam to be conducted before the Rongali Bihu festival, a significant celebration in the state. The delegation comprised prominent figures including Member of Parliament and Convenor of the State Election Committee, Pradan Baruah, former Education Minister and Convenor of the Election Manifesto Committee, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, and Convenor of the State Election Cell, Dhrubajyoti Dauka. They urged the Election Commission to carry out the polls prior to Rongali Bihu, highlighting the state’s substantially improved road infrastructure, enhanced connectivity, and a stable law-and-order situation. The delegation argued that these advancements necessitate a swift and consolidated electoral process across Assam. The Chief Election Commissioner, accompanied by Election Commissioner Vivek Joshi and Chief Electoral Officer of Assam Anurag Goel along with other senior officials, participated in the discussions regarding this pressing request.
