An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Manipur Police, Ningthoujam Muhindro Singh, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Thoubal district. The incident, which occurred on February 16, became known when the victim returned home in distress, prompting her family to investigate. Following the revelation, local residents protested, demanding severe legal repercussions for the accused, including capital punishment, and opposed any possibility of bail. Protesters criticized the ASI’s actions as a betrayal of his duty to protect the vulnerable and called for the government to ensure he remains in custody and faces the maximum penalty. Demonstrators also pressed for an examination of whether there were previous allegations against Singh, holding signs demanding justice for minors and denouncing sexual harassment. Currently, Singh is in judicial custody for 15 days and has been suspended from service while further investigations continue.
