Ahead of a crucial meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Nagaland counterpart Neiphiu Rio held discussions in Guwahati on Sunday, focusing on matters of mutual interest and regional cooperation.
The Assam Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) confirmed the meeting in a post on X, stating, “HCM Dr. @himantabiswa met his Nagaland counterpart, Shri @Neiphiu_Rio, at Hotel Radisson Blu, Guwahati, this morning. The discussion focused on matters of mutual interest for Assam, Nagaland, and the entire Northeastern region, along with warm exchanges of greetings.”
The discussions come ahead of a high-level meeting of all Northeastern chief ministers with Amit Shah, where the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which replaces the Indian Penal Code (IPC), will be reviewed. The Home Minister’s visit to the region marks the conclusion of his three-day tour of Assam and Mizoram, during which he assessed various developmental and security-related matters.
