Assam Governor Awards Degrees to 360 Students at Assam Women’s University

During the fifth convocation ceremony of Assam Women’s University held in Jorhat, Assam Governor and Chancellor Lakshman Prasad Acharya conferred degrees upon 360 graduates, underscoring the transformative power of knowledge. He articulated that knowledge is invaluable, stating, “There is no friend like knowledge, no relative like knowledge. There is no wealth like knowledge, no happiness like knowledge,” emphasizing its role as an essential asset for individual and societal progress. The Governor described the occasion as a pivotal moment that signifies the culmination of the graduates’ dedication and perseverance over the years, expressing confidence that they will contribute positively to society in their future endeavors.

Recognition was also given to social worker Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, who received a D.Litt degree for her significant contributions to social and cultural activities in Assam. The Governor commended her as a role model of service and dedication, inspiring many women. He further stressed the importance of women’s education, referring to Indian tradition which venerates women as embodiments of knowledge and strength. Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, he remarked on the empowerment of families, communities, and the nation through women’s education.

Governor Acharya expressed satisfaction with Assam Women’s University for its crucial role in meeting the higher education needs of women across various demographics, including tribal, rural, and urban areas. He commended the university for implementing the National Education Policy’s principles, promoting research, innovation, and skill development to adapt to the evolving demands of society. He encouraged graduates to engage in lifelong learning, pursue their careers with dedication, integrity, and confidence while continuously upgrading their knowledge and skills. Prof. Streamlet Dkhar from the Department of Khasi, North Eastern Hill University, delivered the convocation address, highlighting the event’s significance in fostering educational advancement.
