Assam government planning to modernize state’s inland waterways  

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched Launching ten catamaran vessels, three tug boats and a search-and-rescue vessel in Guwahati. During the occasion the CM announced about modernizing state’s inland waterways.

According to the sources, the state government is planning to invest Rs. 700 crore to modernize the Inland waterways.

Sarma said, ”Rivers have always been the lifeline of Assam. These modern vessels will not only revitalise the waterways but will also open doors to economic growth, job creation, and a greener future.”

During the occasion, the Assam CM also informed about, the state government will be taking financial aid from the World Bank for Assam Inland Water Transport project to improve the quality of inland waterways transport by integrating high-quality passenger and vehicle ferry services in Brahmaputra and Barak rivers, to ensure a safe, sustainable and reliable mode of transport for commuters across the state.
