Assam Elections: First Phase of EVM, VVPAT Randomization Held in 35 Districts

The First Randomisation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the upcoming General Election to the Assam Legislative Assembly in 2026 was successfully conducted across all 35 districts, encompassing 126 Assembly constituencies. This important process took place in the offices of the respective District Election Officers (DEOs) on Wednesday, with representatives from both recognized national and state political parties present. Their involvement was integral to maintaining transparency and adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Election Commission.

The initial randomisation of EVMs and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) is a critical, mandatory component of the election process. It entails the random allocation of EVMs to various Assembly Constituencies via the EVM Management System (EMS). This systematized procedure guarantees complete fairness in the allocation process, effectively eliminates any potential for bias or tampering, and enhances the overall integrity of the electoral framework. Furthermore, the presence of political party representatives during this exercise serves to bolster confidence in the transparency and reliability of the election machinery.
