Assam CM to end decade old VIP culture, vows to pay his own electricity bills

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced of ending VIP culture in terms of electricity bill payment from government officials to Ministers will now have to pay their own bills.

According to the sources, in a aim to reduce electricity consumption the change will get effected from July 1, 2024.

Assam CM wrote on ‘X’, “We are ending the VIP Culture rule of paying electricity bills of Government officials using taxpayer money. Myself and the Chief Secretary will set an example and start paying our power bills from July 1 onwards. Beginning July 2024, all public servants will have to pay for their own electricity consumption.”

Except for the CM Secretariat, Home, and Finance Departments, sharp at 8 pm electricity will be disconnected in all the government offices as well.
