Assam Cabinet Approves 10-Bigha Land Allotment for Zubeen Garg’s Zubeen Kshetra

The Assam Cabinet has officially allocated 10 bighas of land to the State cultural affairs department for the establishment of the Zubeen Kshetra, a memorial dedicated to the celebrated singer and cultural figure Zubeen Garg. This site will be located in Kamarckuchi village, near Sonapur, close to Guwahati. Following the Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, it was highlighted that this initiative marks a tribute to Zubeen Garg, whose contributions to Assamese music and culture have left a significant impact on the region.

In addition to the land allotment, the Cabinet made several important decisions aimed at cultural recognition, infrastructure enhancement, and administrative reform. Among these was the approval of ₹1,367 crore for the South East Guwahati Water Supply Project, tasked with ensuring safe drinking water access to various localities within the city, many of which currently experience inadequate supply. This project is anticipated to bolster urban infrastructure significantly, providing dependable access to potable water for residents in the rapidly expanding metropolitan areas of Guwahati.

Furthermore, the Cabinet resolved to rename the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital in Barpeta as the Barpeta Medical College and Hospital. This decision is part of the government’s effort to honor the legacy of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, the first President of India from Assam, by dedicating another institution in his name. Chief Minister Sarma expressed the intent behind this renaming as one that seeks to pay homage to the former President in a more suitable manner.
