The Assam Book Fair in Guwahati is transitioning into a prominent literary festival, featuring national publishers and a comprehensive programme, while also highlighting young writers. Organized by the Publication Board Assam and the All Assam Book Publishers and Sellers Association, the 14-day event will commence on December 24 at the Khanapara Veterinary College playground. This year’s fair is extended from 12 to 14 days to facilitate Republic Day preparations on January 26.
Secretary Pramod Kalita reported an increase in participation, with 135 stalls planned, including 11 from Delhi and Haryana, 17 from Kolkata, and others from Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Assam. Many publishers have upgraded their stalls due to last year’s strong sales, with final preparations underway as workers stack books for the fair’s opening.
