Arunachal tribal body urges stricter ILP checks to curb illegal immigration

The Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF) has called on the state government to intensify checks of Inner Line Permits (ILPs) to combat the rising influx of illegal immigrants. In a statement issued on Sunday, the influential tribal body expressed concerns over the growing number of illegal immigrants, particularly in the border districts and the capital region.

During a meeting with community-based organizations, the AITF discussed the serious security, demographic, and socio-cultural impacts of unchecked immigration. The forum pointed to the recent busts of illegal sex rackets in the state, where the involvement of illegal immigrants was evident, emphasizing the growing threat.

The AITF warned that Arunachal Pradesh, due to its geographical position, is becoming a soft target for immigrants fleeing national turmoil in Bangladesh. The forum urged the government to take urgent measures, including heightened surveillance at all entry points along inter-state borders.
