Naharlagun police have solved a string of robberies carried out by two men who posed as police officers to target unsuspecting pedestrians in the Capital Region. A special investigation team was formed after multiple snatching incidents were reported.
The suspects used a rented scooter from Ziro Point Tinali, Itanagar, to approach victims under the guise of checking Inner Line Permits or inspecting for drugs. They would then threaten the victims with a knife and steal their valuables.
The investigation, led by SP Dr. Nyelam Nega, included SDPO Rishi Longdo, Inspector K Dev, and Constables Sanu Raj, B Mitkong, and H. Tamin. The breakthrough came with the arrest of 22-year-old Margang Taya from Kra Dadi district on July 29 in Donyi Colony. His confession led to the arrest of his accomplice, Rohan Tamang alias Rohit, also 22, from Division-IV, Itanagar. Tamang was caught by Constable Sanu Raj, aided by technical support from Jenny Wangpan and Techi Kako.
The suspects are being linked to other snatching cases, bringing much-needed relief to local residents.
