The High-tech Group of Institutions presented Arshiya Das, a chess prodigy from Tripura, with the renowned National Youth Icon Award, adding yet another honor to her outstanding list of accomplishments. In honor of National Youth Day and Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary, the award ceremony was held on Sunday at the Constitution Club of New Delhi. Since Arshiya was in Goa for a chess competition, she was unable to accept the prize awarded to the office bearers of the Indian Chess Association in person.
Every year, the National Youth Icon Awards are given out to honor outstanding accomplishments by young people in a variety of professions. Arshiya received recognition in the sports category for her exceptional chess achievements. Arshiya was one of 30 gifted young people from all throughout the nation who received the prize this year. The ceremony was presided over by Joel Oram, Union Minister for Tribal Welfare, and other dignitaries.
The SPS Guwahati Rating Open 2024 was recently won by IM Mayank Chakraborty, who secured the top spot through tie-breaks with a score of 8.5/10. 374 participants, including three instant messaging users, participated in the tournament, which was hosted by the Assam Chess Club and ran in a 10-round Swiss format from December 25 to 30. Mayank claimed a trophy and ₹100,000, remaining undefeated. Samyak Dharewa and IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni placed second and third, respectively. The prize fund for the event was ₹1,000,000.
