Arrest of PREPAK(Pro) member triggers heightened security in Manipur

Manipur Police have arrested a key member of the banned outfit PREPAK(Pro) in a major crackdown on insurgent activities. The arrested individual, identified as Sapam Priyojit Singh, 43, was apprehended from Okram Chuthek in Imphal East on July 22. Singh was reportedly involved in extorting government employees, and a mobile phone was recovered from his possession.

In response to the arrest, security forces have intensified search operations and area domination in vulnerable and fringe areas of both hill and valley districts of Manipur. This move is part of a broader strategy to bolster security across the state amid ongoing unrest. To ensure the safe passage of essential goods, 266 vehicles have been escorted along NH-2. Security measures have been heightened at all vulnerable locations, with a security convoy provided on sensitive stretches to facilitate the uninterrupted movement of vehicles.

Furthermore, a total of 99 checkpoints have been established across various districts of Manipur. The police have detained 60 individuals in connection with various violations as part of their ongoing efforts to maintain law and order.
