Army man gets jail term for job fraud

A CBI court in Assam has convicted an Army personnel in a job fraud case. The court sentenced the accused, Vijay Kumar Gupta, Sepoy (MT), ASC Battalion, to three-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 in a case of corruption and cheating arising from blatant misuse of official position. The CBI registered the case on May 15, 2019 on a complaint lodged by a Brigadier, which revealed that the accused, while working and posted as Sepoy (MT) 556 Army Service Corps (ASC) Battalion, Siger, Mebo,Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh, during the period from 2011 to 2018, cheated a woman of Rs 1.50 lakh by falsely promising to secure a government job for her son. After investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Gupta and another accused, SK Pandey, Naik on December 31, 2019. Charges were framed against the accused persons by the court on March 31, 2022. The court, after the trial, acquitted SK Pandey and convicted Gupta.
