An Architects’ Meet took place at the City Convention Centre, Imphal, to celebrate the Foundation Day of the Manipur Architects’ Forum (MAF), organized in collaboration with the Town Planning Department. The event was attended by Chief Guest Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director of IPR, along with several Guests of Honour, including N. Benju Singh, Chief Town Planner, and Dr. R.K. Nimai, Retd. IAS. Uttam Singh emphasized the multifaceted role of architects, stressing legal compliance with building regulations, the importance of early consultation during construction, and the necessity of designing climate-responsive and seismic-safe buildings due to Manipur’s environmental vulnerabilities. He urged architects to adhere to accessibility guidelines mandated by the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act and to preserve the region’s indigenous architectural identity.
The program featured prize distributions for winners of the World Architecture Day Essay Writing Competition and recognition of senior MAF members. A technical session followed, focusing on the roles of architects in combating climate change and enforcing Development Control Regulations (DCR), with presentations by Dr. T. Brajakumar Singh and N. Benju Singh. Engaging discussions allowed for active participation from attendees, culminating in closing remarks by R.K. Nimai Singh. The event included officials from the Town Planning Department, members of MAF, and students from various institutes, highlighting the importance of architecture in sustainable development and regulatory adherence.
