Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, the Apostolic Nuncio (the Vatican’s ambassador) to India and Nepal, prayed at the Catholic Cemetery in Tura on Sunday.
Accompanied by the Bishop of Tura and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the Nuncio dedicated a prayer to former Lok Sabha Speaker and former Chief Minister late P. A. Sangma.
Notably, Archbishop Girelli arrived in Tura on Saturday on a two-day visit. He is the first Vatican ambassador to visit the Garo Hills region of Meghalaya.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, who received the Pope’s ambassador, said he was honored to warmly welcome Archbishop Girelli, the Ambassador of the Holy Father, to Don Bosco in Mendal, North Garo Hills district.
“We are deeply honored and immensely blessed to welcome His Excellency, the Most Rev. Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Ambassador of the Holy Father, to the Diocese of Tura,” Sangma stated on social media.
“His gracious presence among us brings the blessings of God for the people of Meghalaya. We are truly grateful for his pastoral guidance, wise counsel, and the joy of his visit to our diocese,” the Chief Minister said.
