In a significant move to enable micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and boost e-commerce exports from the country, Amazon India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Amazon and DGFT will collaborate on capacity building sessions, training, and workshops for MSMEs in 75 districts as part of the Districts as Export Hubs initiative, aiming to connect local producers in rural and remote districts with global supply chains in a phased manner. The MoU was signed in the presence of Shri. Santosh Sarangi (Additional Secretary and Director General of DGFT), Chetan Krishnaswamy (Vice President, Public Policy – Amazon) and Bhupen Wakankar (Director Global Trade – Amazon India).
Amazon and DGFT are partnering to educate MSMEs on e-commerce exports, enabling them to sell globally. Amazon will also provide access to third-party service providers for services like imaging, digital cataloging, and tax advisory, enabling Indian entrepreneurs to build global brands and e-commerce export businesses.
Shri. Santosh Sarangi Additional Secretary and Director General of DGFT – “In first such collaboration with different e-commerce platforms, DGFT is collaborating with Amazonas a step towards our goal of enabling $200-300 billion in ecommerce exports from India by 2030.”
