Kuki-Zo MLA Vungzagin Valte was airlifted from Imphal to New Delhi for medical treatment at Medanta – The Medicity Hospital, Gurugram, following severe injuries sustained during the May 2023 violence in Imphal. After a recovery period in Delhi, Valte experienced a health deterioration, leading to his emergency admission to the ICU at Churachandpur Medical College Hospital. The Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, actively monitored his condition and dispatched an advanced life-support ambulance, along with a team of doctors from Imphal, to support Valte in Churachandpur.
Throughout the night, Imphal doctors communicated continuously with local medical staff via tele-conferencing, providing guidance and support. Aiming to ensure Valte’s swift evacuation due to the critical nature of his health, the Chief Minister arranged for an air ambulance as soon as it was deemed necessary. Valte’s condition showed signs of improvement, permitting his transfer from Churachandpur Medical College Hospital at approximately 3:00 pm, facilitated by the Deputy Commissioner of the district.
Accompanied by two fellow BJP legislators, Tongbram Robindro Singh and Sanasam Premchandra Singh, Valte was escorted from Phoujakhai village to Imphal Airport. Upon arrival, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh greeted Valte and expressed his well-wishes to both the MLA and his family, encouraging Valte to return after full recovery with, “Pu Valte, please come back after you have fully recovered. I will wait for your return.” Subsequently, the air ambulance carrying Valte departed from Imphal Airport around 4:30 pm.
