After Bordoloi Joins BJP, Focus Shifts to Son Parteek’s Next Move

The formal induction of Pradyut Bordoloi, the Nagaon MP, into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised questions regarding the political future of his son, Parteek Bordoloi, who is still aligned with the Indian National Congress in Assam. Parteek serves as Co-Chairman of the Social Media Department of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and is a candidate for Margherita, a constituency viewed as his father’s political stronghold.

Pradyut Bordoloi stated that family political decisions are independent and emphasized his autonomy in decision-making, noting, “I have taken every decision in my life on my own.” He assured that his shift to the BJP would not influence his son’s political direction, respecting whatever choice Parteek makes.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dismissed the idea of linking political decisions to family ties, arguing it is not appropriate to involve children in political discussions. Sarma confirmed that the BJP’s engagement is solely with Pradyut Bordoloi and that he had not discussed Parteek’s political stance.

Pradyut Bordoloi’s transition to the BJP was described as “emotionally difficult,” citing feelings of being “suffocated and sidelined” in Congress, leading him to seek a more dignified political platform. The BJP leadership hinted at potential further political realignments in Assam, with Sarma indicating that efforts to attract leaders from other parties to the BJP will persist.
