After a search spanning 5 days Siliguri youth’s deceased body recovered from Teesta River

Recently the Bhakti Nagar police recovered the body of Gour Mandal, who jumped from the Sevoke Coronation Bridge into the Teesta River on January 3, following a 5-day search operation. On Monday evening, the officials recovered the body from the banks of the Teesta River adjacent to Laltong Basti. As per the reports, the deceased body was sent to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for autopsy after proper identification by the authorities. Later the body will be transported to the deceased’s family after a post-mortem examination.

Significantly, on the evening of January 3, the police of the Sevoke Outpost actually found a wallet from the Coronation Bridge comprising Gour Mandal’s identity card during the investigation of the case. The police then contacted the youth’s family and learned that Gour had plunged into the Teesta River. Following this, the search operation for the drowned youth actually began on January 4. The rescue team continued its search from the Teesta River to Gajoldoba. Later, on Monday evening, the body of the youth was recovered from the banks of Teesta River. At present, the police have started further investigation into the incident.
