On Tuesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke about the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) which the Assam government was planning to remove from 5 districts in Assam.
The Chief Minister of Assam said that they were planning to remove AFSPA from five districts as the law and order situation has improved from last two years.
”Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s various initiatives has led to peace agreements with several armed groups, removal of AFSPA from 60 per cent of the state, besides resolving boundary issues with Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya”, the CM said.
AFSPA was removed from nine districts of Assam on April 1, 2022 and a sub-division of Cachar district and later it was removed from the Lakhipur sub-division and West Karbi Anglong district. ‘We hope that the AFSPA will also be removed from five more districts by the end of this year”, the CM later added.
