Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Saturday that some political parties received a “jolt” when the Supreme Court rejected their request for review of allegations of arbitrary use of government investigation agencies against opposition leaders. Up to 14 political groups, including the Congress, have petitioned the Supreme Court, claiming that the use of coercive criminal proceedings against individuals exercising their fundamental right to dissent has increased alarmingly.
However, the Supreme Court pointed out that politicians do not enjoy “higher immunity” and rejected the argument.
