An important member of the Agriculture Ministry stated on Sunday that the millet value chain must be strengthened through improved varieties, longer shelf lives, effective processing, and market access. At the World Millets Conference, Joint Secretary for Agriculture Vijaya Lakshmi Nadendla stated, “We must conduct R&D in all sectors of the millets value chain and bring together the expertise of production, processing, and storage and make it available to the consumer. The government is promoting millets production and raising demand; it is anticipated that more women will become involved in millets cultivation, necessitating the need for skill-building and capacity-building, she added during a different conference session.
