Dr. Hemen Kumar Kalita has made history as the first Indian Air Force Flying Officer from Gauhati University (GU), serving as the university’s inaugural Associate NCC Officer (ANO) in the NCC Air Force Wing. This distinction marks a significant achievement for the institution, highlighting Dr. Kalita’s exemplary role in mentoring and motivating National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets to pursue careers in the armed forces and contribute to national service. Dr. Kalita completed his Pre-Commission Training (PRCN) with distinction, earning an ‘A’ grade at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Kamptee and subsequently at the Air Force Station (AFS), Tambaram. His formal commissioning as a Flying Officer culminated in a pipping ceremony on December 26, 2025, following rigorous training phases at both locations, with Phase I conducted at OTA from September 1 to 20, 2025, and Phase II at AFS from October 27 to December 27, 2025.
