A massive landslide in Kohima has left 20 families homeless

Heavy rains triggered a massive landslide in Kohima, damaging at least four houses and rendering 20 families homeless, officials reported on Friday. The incident occurred in Pezielietsie Colony in Ward-3 North Block, partially damaging several adjacent houses as well.

Newly-elected councillors of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), led by Chairman Neikhozo Suokhrie and Deputy Chairman Khrielievie Chusi, visited the affected area to assess the situation. Expressing serious concern, Suokhrie acknowledged that the area is a known sinking zone and announced that the KMC would initiate a pilot project to construct a retaining wall and drainage system in collaboration with the state government.

Ruokuovolie Rutsa, the councillor of the affected ward, noted that this is the first significant landslide in the area since 2017. He also mentioned that locals are actively assisting the displaced families, demonstrating strong community support in the face of the disaster.
