A 55-year-old woman in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohila was allegedly shot dead by her daughter’s ex-boyfriend at their home. Police said the accused man allegedly came to retrieve the gifts given to his partner but instead fired at her and her mother.
The deceased Poonam (55) was shot in the head and died on the spot, police said. Her daughter, a 27-year-old chartered accountant, called the police and alleged that her ex-boyfriend had killed her mother. The absconding accused works as a salesman in a saree shop in the Kotwali area.
Police said the woman and the accused were in a relationship till last month. The woman wanted to return the gifts and called the accused to come and take them away.
“We got a call around 4-5 pm. The woman said she was sitting with a bag full of teddy bears and other gifts. The accused came and, she gave him the bag but he got angry and shouted at them. He pulled out a pistol and fired at her. Her mother was also standing nearby and he was shot in the head,” a senior police officer said.
SS Kalsi, DCP (North), said, “We have formed multiple teams and sent them to nab the accused. His location has been identified. He tries to escape but is soon caught. The woman’s statement was recorded. It seems the accused got angry and planned to attack the woman after the breakup.”
According to the police, the neighbors initially believed that Poonam died after slipping in the bathroom. At around 4.02 pm, a PCR call came that, “Our neighbor slipped and fell in the bathroom. She is seriously injured.”
