35 Acres of Illegal Poppy Crops Destroyed by Security Forces in Manipur

Security forces in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district have eradicated nearly 35 acres of illegal poppy cultivation, according to police reports from Tuesday. The operation involved a coordinated effort by the Manipur police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), forest department, and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), targeting the hill ranges of Langkhong (Saisijang). During this operation, law enforcement authorities destroyed twelve huts, thirteen bags of fertilizers, nineteen herbicides of the Roundup brand, sixteen bags of salt, and various equipment including spray pumps and pipes that were utilized in the illegal cultivation process. The state government had earlier issued warnings to individuals engaged in extensive poppy planting, a practice that has led to significant vegetative clearance and has adversely impacted the local ecosystem in hilly regions.
