At least 20 people perished in a terrible accident on Monday when the bus they were riding in veered off the road and plunged into a 200-meter-deep valley in the Almora region of Uttarakhand. A number of children were among the victims. According to reports, the tragic bus carrying people from Garhwal to Kumaon was overcrowded when it crashed on Monday morning. About 40 people were said to be on the bus when the accident occurred, and eyewitness reports indicate that the vehicle lost control before crashing into the gorge, raising concerns that the death toll could increase.
As the crowded bus got closer to Kupail Village, the driver apparently lost control, sending it plummeting into a steep valley. Search and rescue activities were promptly carried out by emergency response teams in the area, such as the State Disaster Response Force and the Uttarakhand police. Rescuers are putting in endless effort to evacuate surviving and take injured people to local hospitals.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, has been keeping a careful eye on the situation and has expressed his profound sadness over the terrible death toll.
