A rifleman from the 1st Manipur Rifles, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and stationed at the Khongjom Post, was apprehended in Kakching district on January 2 with a large consignment of drugs. The arrest was confirmed by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, who highlighted the gravity of the incident.
The arrest was made during a well-coordinated operation led by the Kakching District Commando (CDO) team at Pallel Mamang Leikai. The team recovered approximately 10.2 kilograms of suspected WY (World is Yours) tablets, a highly addictive stimulant. The confiscated drugs are valued at several lakhs of rupees in the illegal drug trade, marking a significant success in the ongoing fight against narcotics in the state.
Speaking on the development, Chief Minister Singh lauded the swift and precise action of the CDO-Kakching team. “This incident is deeply concerning and highlights the corrupting influence of drug money, even among security personnel. It is imperative to enforce stricter monitoring and accountability within the forces,” he said.
