Thoubal District Village Defence Force (VDF) commemorated its 17th Raising Day at the District Police Headquarters in Thoubal. The celebration featured prominent attendees, including the Chief Guest SP Thoubal Manoj Prabhakar M, IPS, and the president of the Thoubal District VDF Welfare Association, Md. Idrish Shah, along with several other dignitaries such as Additional SPs and various district police officials.
The event included floral tributes to deceased VDF personnel led by SP Thoubal, a band salute by the VDF Band party, and the presentation of gifts and appreciation certificates to selected VDF members. During his speech, SP Thoubal lauded the VDF’s vital contributions to maintaining law and order, reaffirming his commitment to their welfare.
Additional SP (LO) Divya, IPS, the highlighted that of the 3,000 personnel in the Thoubal district police, 1,800 are VDF members, underscoring their integral role in community interactions and law enforcement. Md. Idrish Shah emphasized the need for government support in enhancing the welfare of VDF members, particularly in medical and mental health services, and expressed the necessity for an increase in honorarium and improved facilities.
Significantly, he announced an enhancement of Rs 50,000 in death benefit assistance for bereaved families of VDF personnel, raising the total amount to Rs 3 lakhs, as officially approved by SP Thoubal. This increase comes into effect with the 17th VDF Raising Day. Md. Idrid also urged VDF members to stay committed to their responsibilities and collaborate with police to reinforce community safety and security.
